Who We Are

John Whyte, MD, PhD

Dr. John Whyte is the founding director of the Jefferson Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute, and continues as Institute Scientist Emeritus on a part-time basis. He received his MD and a PhD in cognitive psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Minnesota and a traumatic brain injury fellowship at Tufts University.

He maintained a clinical research laboratory at the Institute until 2019, as well as founding and directing the clinical Responsiveness Program, a MossRehab subspecialty rehabilitation program for patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness.

In parallel with his research program, he has maintained an interest in the special methodologic challenges posed by rehabilitation research more broadly, and in training and mentoring researchers to meet those challenges. Since transitioning to emeritus status, he remains actively involved in a number of collaborations related to his former program of research, but spends the majority of his time in mentoring and methodology-related activities, and serves at the Chair of the Institutional Review Board for Einstein Healthcare Network.
