The Brain Injury Neuropsychology Laboratory Welcomes Christy Mote

We are pleased to introduce Christy Mote, MS, ATC, a Clinical Research Coordinator who recently joined the Brain Injury Neuropsychology Laboratory at Jefferson Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute. The lab is directed by our Institute’s Associate Director Amanda Rabinowitz, PhD.

Christy received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tulsa in 2018, majoring in Athletic Training and minoring in Psychology. She next completed her Master’s Degree in Exercise and Sport Science at the University of Central Arkansas in 2021.

While in the program, Christy worked as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Sports Related Concussion Lab. There, she had the opportunity to contribute to various research projects focused on baseline testing and diagnosis of concussion in Division I collegiate athletes. She also collaborated with researchers in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. In this role, Christy gained experience in functional near-infrared spectroscopy neuroimaging, managing concussion protocols, delivery of concussion-related educational materials, and collecting data with human participants with concussion.

After graduating with her master’s degree, Christy worked for about a year as a Medical Scribe for Arkansas Urology. She subsequently worked as a Rehab and Therapy Specialist/Chiropractic Assistant at Bledsoe Chiropractic. These experiences working in clinical environments helped shape her career interests.

Christy returned to brain injury research in 2022, accepting a position as a Research Assistant for the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence (TBICoE) at Fort Carson, Colorado. During her time in that position, she further honed her research skills working on two studies examining vestibular rehabilitation after mild TBI. This included data collection, data entry, database management, extracting data from medical records, statistical analyses, and study documentation.

Christy was promoted to Clinical Research Associate for TBICoE in 2023. Over the course of her nearly three years in this position, she continued to build her knowledge and take on new roles in clinical trials related to blast exposure in military personnel. Among other tasks, Christy served as a primary contact for research sites, generated research study databases, developed recruitment materials, managed IRB submissions, trained research assistants, and monitored study enrollment.

At Jefferson Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute, she will administer neuropsychological and behavioral assessments in person and over the phone, contribute to manuscript preparation and presentations at professional conferences, and work with clinical populations with moderate to severe TBI and anoxic brain injuries admitted to inpatient rehabilitation as part of multiple ongoing research studies in the Brain Injury Neuropsychology Laboratory.

The Institute is excited to welcome Christy to the team, and we look forward to working with her!
